Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deals On Wavy Hair Products

Cash Back With Rakuten

I tend to be frugal and I just love getting a deal. I thought some of you may as well, so I decided to do a round-up of some wavy hair deals that are going on as part of black Friday or cyber Monday!

If you aren’t already a member of Rakuten it’s a fun way to save money year-round. Or perhaps ‘save money’ isn’t the best way to phrase it – they give you cash back after you’ve spent money. If you shop from your phone you can download the Rakuten app and you’ll just need to open the app and select your retailer before placing online orders. If you do your online shopping from a PC, you sign up and add their browser extension button. Then when you’re on a retailer site you can click the browser extension button and click on activate cash back. The app also will sometimes notify you of coupon codes available for the site you’re on!

Lots of retailers work with Rakuten, including Walmart, Target, Ulta, Sephora and Sally beauty. The percentage of cashback that you can earn can change at any time. The retailers I listed are all offering 4% to 10% at this moment.

If you are new to Rakuten it’s an AWESOME time to join. If you sign up with my link, and make a $40 purchase within 90 days, you’ll get a $40 cash-back bonus, and I’ll get $40 as well. The signup bonus is usually $25 so it’s awesome that it is $40 right now.

Wavy Gift Guide

Last year I put together a wavy hair gift guide for those shopping for people with wavy hair. Check it out if you’re shopping for someone else!

Hair Care Products Deals Through Retailers

Ulta and Target both have all Curlsmith products 40% off for black Friday! I have only used a few of their products but plan to buy more to test out for you guys. If you like really hard hold gels, I’d recommend the Curlsmith Shine Gel. It’s got really extreme hold and I use less of it than I do with most other gels. If your hair likes protein or is damaged, I’d recommend the Curlsmith Bond Salve. My hair isn’t damaged so I don’t usually use bond repair products, but this one has protein as well and my hair loves protein. I’ve used Curlsmith’s air dry cream and shape up aqua gel and neither of those were winners for me, though I have seen lots of other wavies say they love the air dry cream.

Ulta has 50% off OUIDAD climate control gel and hard hold climate control gel. I have tried these but personally haven’t cared for them but many others love them, especially people who live in humid climates.

Ulta has 50% Pacifica Curl defining cream and curls refresher mist.

Ulta has 50% off some HASK brand products.

Ulta has Buy one, get one free on Not Your Mother’s products. I like a lot of products from this brand but some of my all-time favorites are the not your mother’s curl talk mousse, the curl talk hard hold gel (not the regular gel!), and the rice water shampoo and conditioner.

Ulta has buy one, get one 40% off on SheaMoisture products. Many of their products are too heavy for me, but I like the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & yogurt protein treatment.

Ulta has 40% off some Eva NYC products.

Ulta has 30% off Pattern brand products. I had previously assumed this whole brand would be too heavy for my hair, but I have seen some wavies say that select Pattern products can work on some wavy hair.

Sally’s has 25% off Shea Moisture products. Many of their products are too heavy for me, but I like the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & yogurt protein treatment.

Meijer has bogo 50% off on salon professional hair care products.

Amazon has 30% off some Zotos  products. I have tried a starter kit of products from this line and didn’t love them but when the Devacurl claims first started happening, I saw a lot of people saying that Zotos products are comparable to Devacurl. I’ve never tried Devacurl so I can’t speak to that but something to consider.

The Pacifica Pineapple Curls Defining Cream is 50% off on amazon. I have this but haven’t given it a try yet.

Some Umberto Giannini Curl products are on sale on Amazon. I’ve had the curl jelly on my wishlist for quite a while and it’s currently 40% off vs the price it was when I added it to my wish list.

Twist weather up gel is 48% off. I’ve used this and thought it was okay but not spectacular, but my hair isn’t as sensitive to humidity as some people. Other Twist Products are around 50% off as well.

Mielle Organics Babassu and Mint Deep Conditioner with Protein is on sale for $8. Amazon says the regular price is $10 but I think that is incorrect. I think it’s usually closer o $12-$14. Many other Mielle products are also on sale for around $8 on Amazon.

LUS all-in-one stylers are 19% off on amazon.

Marc Anthony Curl Foam is 55% off on Amazon.

Olaplex products are 20% off on Amazon.

There’s a OUIDAD Sale on Amazon on their ‘heat and humidity’ products for 50% off.

Hair Care Deals Through Brand Sites

Curlsmith.com has 30% off when you spend $70, 35% off when you spend $120, or 40% off when you spend $180.

Verbproducts.com has 30% off sitewide with a few exceptions. Sadly, one of the exceptions is the curl foam gel.

MielleOrganics.com has everything $6.99 (with a few exceptions).

Jessicurl.com has 40% off their 8oz bottles through 11/27.

EcoSlay.com has 30% off everything.

Briogeo has 30% off everything.

Inhasi has 50% off sitewide.

MopTop has 25% off.

OnlyCurls has 20% off everything.

RizosCurls has up to 50% off some items.

Treluxe has 30% off.

UncleFunkysDaughter.com has 40% off sitewide. Many UFD brand products will be too heavy for most wavy hair but the “curly magic” gel is popular with some. It’s often used more as a curl enhancer than a gel/hold product.

AG hair has 30% off sitewide and is giving away a free tote with all orders valued at $50 or more.

Twist by Ouidad has 40% off sitewide and will donate a product for every 2 you buy. Use code GIVEBACK.

Hair gift sets

Target has 25% off beauty gift sets and they have some that include wavy/curly hair products such as Not Your Mother’s, Love Beauty And Planet, SheaMoisture and Mielle brand gift sets. Not all products included may be curly girl method approved so if you’re following the curly girl method look up the ingredients of each product included in the sets.

Meijer has BOGO 50% off personal care gift sets which include some hair care sets.

Blow Dryers & Diffusers

Target has up to 40% off some hair appliances and a handful of blow dryers with diffusers are included.

Walmart, SharkClean.com, Kohls, BestBuy, BedBathAndBeyond and Amazon all have the Shark hyperair blow dryer on sale for $149.99, but it’s the set that does not include the diffuser. SharkClean.com has the same price on the set without the diffuser. SharkClean.com also has the big bundle that includes the diffuser, 3 other attachments and some accessories on sale for $179.99.

Walmart has the Conair infinity pro blow dryer & diffuser combo on sale for $24.49.

Hair tools or accessories

Walmart has the Diane Pro Styling Brush (denman dupe) on sale for $4.75.

Ulta has 25% off Wet Brush brand products.

has 25% off Goodie hair accessories.

Meijer has buy 2, get 1 free on “beauty giftables” which includes some hair accessories.

I’ll update this post when Cyber Monday deals are released so check back later for updates!

Sephora has only released a preview of their Black Friday ad, and Dyson is currently having a pre-black Friday ad.

Aphogee Two Step Protein Treatment Review

September 30, 2022 by Emily Evert 2 Comments

When I was new to the curly girl method I read about protein overload and was scared of protein as a result. I successfully avoided using much protein for quite a while without a problem. I think after about a year and a half, I started experiencing moisture overload.

I’d wash and style my hair the same way, using the same products as before, but I’d barely get a cast when I used to get a hard cast. Plus, my waves would fall flat after just a few hours or less than a day, when they used to last multiple days. I couldn’t avoid protein any longer.

Once I saw how much my hair benefited from some protein, I started incorporating it into my routine more often. I remained afraid of really ‘strong’ protein treatments though. Yet, I continued to find myself in moisture overload fairly frequently when using more mild protein treatments. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend learning your hair type and how your hair type impacts what products you should use.

A year or so ago, I finally decided to try a strong protein treatment…the Aphogee two-step protein treatment. I bought the sample packet at first. It went really well, so I’ve since bought the full sized bottle.

Function Of Beauty Custom Haircare – Review On Wavy Hair

July 22, 2022 by Emily Evert 1 Comment

A while back I was given the chance to be sent customized haircare from Function Of Beauty on another blog. So, I did not pay for the shampoo and conditioner that I was sent. The agreement I was part of didn’t include this post, though. I thought I’d share my experience with the brand on this blog on my own.

I see Function Of Beauty asked about in wavy and curly hair groups fairly often. I figured some of you would be curious to hear how customized haircare from Function Of Beauty worked for someone with wavy hair.

First, it’s important to know that Function Of Beauty will make super customized haircare for you when you order online, and that this is different from the Function Of Beauty products available at Target. This review is for the products available online only.

How Function Of Beauty works

To order from Function Of Beauty’s website you have to fill out a quiz about your hair. It asks you for details about your hair such as your curl pattern, hair thickness, and whether your scalp is dry, balanced or oily.

I put that my hair is wavy, fine, and that I have a balanced scalp.

My Experience Seeing A “Wavy Specialist Vs A Curly Specialist

June 28, 2022 by Emily Evert 4 Comments

My curl specialist experience last year

If you’ve been following me for a while you may recall my 2021 haircut. I saw a Deva certified stylist with over 20 years of experience and it didn’t go well. In part, I didn’t communicate as well as I should have. In part…the stylist just didn’t seem to understand my hair type. The collage below shows my before (first row), my “just got home from the salon” (second row) and my first attempt to style it myself (third row).

Devacut before and after on naturally wavy hair

If you’d like to read more about my experience last year, see my blog post Getting A DevaCut On Wavy Hair [My Experience].

After that experience last year, I initially thought I’d go back to cutting my own hair again. After a while though I started daydreaming about trying a dry curl cut again. For a while I was thinking I’d try out a Ouidad cut or rezo cut rather than another Devacut. Then I found Locks By Alaina out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She’s a Deva certified stylist which wasn’t what I thought I was looking for but…

Alaina has wavy hair herself, and her Instagram is full of clients who also have wavy hair. I was pretty immediately interested, but what really hooked me was when she posted something about how wavy hair often needs strong hold. If there’s one piece of information that people seem to get wrong about wavy hair most often, it’s the idea that wavy hair doesn’t need gel or doesn’t do well work hard hold.

If you go to the hair section of most any store and look for products that say ‘wavy’ you’ll mostly find texturizing sprays or other very light hold products…so it even seems to be a prevalent idea in product marketing. Anyway…I knew she would understand my hair type, so I was pretty much sold.  Let me be clear that she doesn’t advertise herself as a wavy specialist.

I just framed this post that way on my own, because I could see that she has more experience and knowledge with wavy hair than the other stylist I went to…and I think probably more than your average Devacurl specialist, but I am guessing.

Locks By Alaina Review

I was really happy with my experience seeing “Locks By Alaina”…for a whole bunch of reasons.
